Administratively Dolpo is the largest District of Nepal which is situated at the far Western part of Nepal and behind the shadow of Dhaulagiri massif. Dolpo is one of the wilderness trekking destinations which offers the wide variety of flora and fauna, unique landscape, unspoiled and pure Tibetan culture and their agro-nomadic lifestyle. The Dolpo region has divided into two parts Upper Dolpo and Lower Dolpo. Upper Dolpo is in restricted area which requires the both especial and National Park Permit, But Lower Dolpo requires only Shey-Phoksundo National Park Permit.
Upper Dolpo Circuit Trek needs two different permit Shey-Phoksundo National Park Permit and especial permit for restricted area. The Upper Dolpo permit issued by authorized trekking company with group and individual is not allowed. Especial permit cost 1000 USD for two people for ten days. The Upper Dolpo is regarded as a well preserved Tibetan culture and lifestyle in the world. These unspoiled and unmatched culture, nature, language are the prime attraction of Dolpo region. Moreover, highest settlement, Argo-nomadic life, dry and eared unfertilized land and several month of the year has closed by ice and snow then people have to move down looking for good pasture for animal. When getting warm then, they back to their village so still they conducting Argo nomadic life in Dolpo. Animal husbandry and collecting herbals and few farming is the main income people of Dolpo region. They celebrate pure Tibetan festival and lifestyle following Tibetan Bon Buddhism. There are 35 famous Tibetan Monasteries in Upper Dolpo but Shey- Gompa and Crystal Monastery are most important pilgrimage places in Upper Dolpo. Shey Phoksundo Lake is the Largest Trans-Himalayan Lake and clean water sourse as well.
This Upper Dolpo Trek starts from Juphal fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgung then fly to Juphal and all the way walking through lush of forest, river, spectacular landscape, Shey-Phoksundo National Park, Saey-Phoksundo Lake at the beginning and dry rocky terrain, cold and icy valleys and mountain passes in the upper part. April to November is the suitable time for Dolpo Trek. December to March block the passes and villagers move to warmer area to scape from cold. In Summer there is not not proper rain and not cold so trekkers can enjoy the trek in summer.
Upper Dolpo Trek is in remote area and it is not easy accessiable so first you need to organised you trek from Authorised trekking company who arrange all you necessary permit, transport, gears, food tent all because this area does not have proper guest house and lodge
Two different size of bag is needed, one rucksack is given to potter putting trekking equipment and another small day bag is putting your most important thing then carrying by yourself
Shoes: One waterproof light trekking boots, light jugging /sports shoes and flip flops / sandal for night and morning during guest house
Down jacket, fleece jacket, long thermal inner trouser, windproof over trouser, warm hat, sun hat, scarf, Warm waterproof gloves, 4/5 pairs of socks & underwear.
